Preparing for Post-Quantum Cryptography Starts Today

Quantum computers capable of breaking today’s vulnerable public-key encryption may not be here yet, but the need to prepare for them already is.

As part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Red River Senior Design Architect Robert Jordan sat down with Design Architect Casey Turner to discuss what post-quantum cryptography (PQC) means, why organizations should be thinking about it now and what practical steps they can take to prepare.

One of the biggest concerns is “harvest now, decrypt later.” Adversaries may collect encrypted data today with the expectation that future quantum capabilities could allow them to decrypt it later. For organizations protecting sensitive information that must remain secure for years or decades, waiting until “Q-Day” is not a viable strategy.

But preparing for PQC does not mean replacing every encryption algorithm overnight.

As Casey explains in the video, the first step is discovery: understanding what cryptography you have, where it resides, what may be vulnerable and which assets matter most. From there, organizations can prioritize high-value assets, identify mitigation options and build a practical roadmap toward greater cryptographic agility, while also implementing currently available solutions that can help protect data and systems still relying on vulnerable or outdated cryptographic algorithms.

The goal is simple: understand your risk today so you can protect your most critical data before quantum computing changes the equation.

Watch the video to hear Robert and Casey break down PQC, Q-Day and the steps organizations can take now to prepare for what comes next.
