Red River’s Impact on Our Customers: Residency Services

Red River’s residency services are a full-time resource dedicated to one customer, mission or project, blending seamlessly with the customer’s team while providing committed resources to assist with customer infrastructure, application deployment and operations.

Recently, a major hospital system in Washington, DC reached out to Red River indicating that someone within their enterprise network had (accidentally) downloaded some malware, infecting over 750 end points in the hospital including doctor’s iPads, phones, regular desktop computers and crash carts that use a wireless signal – all of these various end points had been infected and they needed a team of engineers to come out and re-image every single device. Within 72 hours, Red River [residency services] had deployed over 30 people, all residents, to go down and start re-imaging all the end points alongside local staff.

According to Stewart Bittel, Red River’s Director of Service Delivery, all employees worked in 24-hour shifts with at least eight to ten people on a rotation in and out of the hospital in order to get the machines re-imaged in at least a week’s time.

“We started with more critical ones first and then made our way down the line,” Bittel said. “Within a few weeks, we got them all squared away and that was really big for us.”

Because one of their hospital employees had downloaded malware to their network, all 750 of their various endpoints were infected. In order to find the right solution for a problem of this size and scope, Red River started by effectively staffing the re-imaging teams with individuals who also had healthcare experience.

“Residency services are the folks that are dedicated to one mission, one fight in the field,” said Bittel. “We make sure our people in the field are very well-supported, and they are delivering in the same approach and manner as the rest of our delivery teams that work on more project or programmatic work.” “Consistency is the primary benefit of this approach; however, this also benefits our customer’s that leverage all of the delivery teams for work. Many times, the residents and the project teams are working simultaneously with one customer and that makes the approach that much more seamless in the delivery.”

To combat the effects of the malware, residents deleted the operating systems for each machine and re-imaged them, ensuring that all applications run normally and that sensitive data is safe.

Especially in healthcare, finding qualified individuals to perform specific tasks can be a challenge.  Through staffing and resources provided by Red River’s residency services, there was no delay in the hospital’s day-to-day business operations.

“I’m glad we were able to do this for a hospital, where patient lives are on the line if they don’t have their computers running with high efficiency,” said Bittel. “With the help of their local staff, we were able to get their network back up and running in a rapid manner.”

Red River’s residency services were designed to mirror Red River’s own technological core competencies – working with a staff of experienced engineering teams that support strategic partnerships with OEMs, deploying partner technologies, providing assistance in cloud migration, data center infrastructure and application development as well as DevSecOps. Our rigorous selection process carefully pairs the best resident to each client, matching technical skills with project needs to drive your technology transformation forward.
